The Codrico Qube, Green Beacon in South Rotterdam
The Codrico Qube (Codrico Kubus) on the Latenstein flour factory of architect J.J.M. Vegter on the Rijnhaven Zuidzijde / Silostraat in Katendrecht (1948-1952), transformed into a green 'beacon' in South Rotterdam by Primo Exposures and DSPS. The illumination of the Codrico Qube is part of DeLI-LIght, 'a project by DSPS', according to stDSPS.nl, 'that focuses on light and art in the public space and more specific the area of Katendrecht' and of which the 'goals are to research the use of light and light-art in this area of urban development and to build an archive to use as a source of information'. The cube is the glass engine room for the elevators below it. Visible behind the Latenstein flower factory: Francine Houben's Montevideo and Norman Foster's World Port Center, both on the Wilhelminapier. In the front: the Maashaven harbour basin.
